"To Protect" by Albin Veselka
Oil on Linen, 30x20
There is a lot said these days about the negative aspects of the masculine in the nature of man that leads impressionable minds to think that masculinity has nothing positive to offer the world. Like all meaningful and impactful things there is a dichotomy to both the masculine and the feminine natures of humanity. Those possessing the masculine characteristic of physical strength have a unique ability to provide, through physical labor, the physical needs of those under their care and responsibility.
Throughout my life, starting from boyhood, I learned the value of being physically strong through exhausting work to provide what was needed for people, and in the case of this painting, also livestock, to be fed and cared for. The world will always need the masculine attribute of physical strength, combined with determination TO PROTECT all that we value and those that we love, and that is truly something positive.
