“We Grew Like That” by Richie Carter
Oil on Linen, 36x30, $14,500
This painting revolves around this statue that is surrounded by a beautiful blooming garden. The statue is of Spartacus standing up and protecting a crucified slave. It’s as if Spartacus already knew that everyone was created equal. Everyone already contains all that they already are. All are innately worthy of equality. All deserve love simply because they exist. This is the same as the seeds that have created the beautiful garden. Each seed already contains all it needs in order to become the blooming beautiful, colorful perfection that it is. We all go through times of darkness, just like the seed. We go through times of fire where we are designed to transform it into growth and beauty if we so choose. These fires are opportunities to burn away the darkness, the fetters that hold us back. With all of life’s experiences, both good and bad, we still grow. We grow not just in spite of things, but because of these things. When we look back, we can say, we grew like that.
